Now I’m just a regular guy from Wellman Iowa, I have a lovely wife whom I’ve been married to now for over 39 years and I have 2 full grown sons who are now off with families of their own.

I’ve always had an interest in farming but never got around to pursuing it until recently.  One of the first things I wanted to do was to buy a chicken coop, I went to find chicken coops for sale but given the current economic times, they were all far too expensive for my tastes.

So What Did I Do?

After getting frustrated with the prices of the chicken coops for sale, I decided I’ll just find myself some chicken house plans and build one myself.  Now, I am no carpenter by any means, so this was no easy task for me, but I was determined.

I read many guides on how to build a chicken coop before taking my first shot at it.  I had all the materials, the wood, the chicken wire and I spent an entire weekend, Friday through Sunday slaving away at setting it up.  After over 30 hours of hard work, I had a very unstable box that was unfit for any chicken to live in, I was very frustrated with the guide as well as myself.

I wanted to be able to wake up to fresh eggs from my chicken coop for breakfast and I wanted a chicken coop that provide an environment for my chickens to lay as many eggs as possible but it was not quite working out for me…

I didn’t give up on it though and through searching for some better chicken house plans I came across the “How To Build A Chicken Coop” site on the Internet.  This book promised it’s instructions were well documented and easy to follow for anyone.  They mentioned it was not full of techno “mumbo-jumbo” which would make it hard for beginners like myself.  The price seemed cheap enough so I decided to pick it up…

It was all documented in a very clear and easy to understand manner that even if you didn’t know much about building a chicken coop, you’d still be able to make sense of the plans.  This gave me some more confidence to have another go at it.  The second time around, I was able to set up a much stronger foundation and I was not at a loss for what to do next as the plans were much more detailed than what I had been used to.  The end result was I was finally able to build a chicken coop that I could be proud of, one that I am still using to this day.
But as helpful as this guide was, it wasn’t perfect…

CONS:

• I like to have my chicken house plans sprawled out on the floor in front of me while I work and I like to take them around with me, set them up on tables, make notes on them, that sort of thing.  This comes as an e-book which means you have to print it out to be able to do all this.

PROS:

• The book is pretty much “dummy proof”, it’s directions and pictures are very easy to follow and there is no “techno mumbo jumbo” to confuse you, it’s just straight to the point English.
• It’s a good guide for a beginner  who is just making their first chicken coop.
• There are some cost saving tips inside this book as well which will help you save money on the construction costs.
